Michael Cignarale’s unapologetic queer anthem, “She Thinks She’s Fierce,” has grown from a Brooklyn underground favorite into a global dancefloor moment for queer nightlife. Anchored by the raw, unfiltered moans of drag queens being chopped and read, the track pays direct homage to Junior Vasquez, and New York’s Sound Factory era, channeling the spirit of Junior with M1 pianos, house organs, and ballroom strings. But this isn’t just a throwback, it’s a reimagining for today. The track pairs this classic house drama with a modern, tribal-influenced UK Funky groove; blurring eras and genres into something timeless, riotous, and deeply queer. “She Thinks She’s Fierce” is a true embodiment of the underground: fierce, sensual, and unafraid. “I wanted this track to feel like stepping into a queer church at 5AM—sweaty, dramatic, and deeply liberating,” says Cignarale. “It’s a love letter to the girls who vogue, scream, and serve on the floor without apology.” The accompanying music video, co-directed by Michael and Sky Cai, features queens from the House of Medusa, and pays homage to drag led public broadcasting programs of the 80’s and 90’s like “On Patrol and ”Fifteen Minutes.” With it’s lo-fi processing, green screening, and vibrant, trippy, colorful video synth patterns; the video channels the energy of early ‘90s dance music visuals—a thread that runs through “She Thinks She’s Fierce” and Michael Cignarale’s overall aesthetic. Full EP is out June 25th NY Pride with remixes from Nita Aviance, Ariel Zetina, & Joshua James, and two new remixes from Michael Cignarale.
